I co-directed this fake commercial under ‘The Merkin Bros’ directing collective. We made the video as a prank. It’s not an official spot. Two days after it’s release, the video shot to the front page of Reddit, received over 300,000 hits, and was featured by Gizmodo, The Huffington Post, Fast Company, and G4’s Attack of the Show. Dell received so many complaints from the tech community about it, they released an official statement:
Regarding the parody some are still asking us about: This video is not affiliated with Dell, but it’s great to see creative professionals get inspiration from using our products. Our Dell.com/takeyourownpath program is all about celebrating people who take their own professional path. Regarding this parody, we consider imitation to be the sincerest form of flattery.
Dell had a great sense of humor about it, and let the video live online.
A show I co-created, wrote and directed for SoulPancake, Rainn Wilson’s production company. Each episode takes a published psychology study on happiness and puts it to the test on willing participants. The show has been featured on the homepage of Upworthy, written about in Fast Company, and named one of the best web videos of the year by USA Today. As a result of the show’s success as a web series on YouTube (It’s clocked over 6 million views), it was picked up for TV by Participant Media’s channel, Pivot, and is making it’s way to ABC3 this summer.
